Step by Step Using the Forum to Advertise and how to Swap

Please consult your landlord for further details, this is a guide only!

1. Register using a valid email address, choose a unique username as no two members can have the same nickname! choose a username and password you can remember as we dont keep records of passwords!

2. Once you have registered you need to check your email account for an email from this site to validate your account. You will need to click on the link in the email, AOL users may need to copy the link into their browsers. If you cant see the email , check your junk mail!

3. Log into the forum with your username and password.

4. Add your exchange advert on the Advert Approvals Board, its the first category and board in the forum!

5. Next start browsing the forum for adverts that are of interest to you! Once you have found something, if you require more information leave a reply on the advertisement. If you are happy with the content of the advert, you may wish to hand over your email address to the member, you can do this by sending them a personal message (pm) to do this click on the members username to the left of their advert and within the drop menu choose the option to "send message" this is similar to sending an email within the site.

6. You may wish to ask the other party for photographs of the home, gardens and surrounding area, and also room measurements as this will save on initial travelling expenses. You will also need to make sure that they have enough members in their family to meet the criteria of your home. An exchange will not be allowed for instance if a family with one child wants to swap into a 4 bed house or a family of 7 want to swap into a 2 bed house Etc.

7. Assuming both parties are happy with the details of the properties handed over so far, next you need to arrange a viewing of each others homes. Take a camera if possible and a tape measure if your unsure as to whether your furniture will fit!

8. Assuming that the viewings went well and both parties are now ready to exchange homes you will both need to contact your landlords and ask them about exchanging homes, you will be giving paperwork to fill in, and once completed by both parties you will need to sit and wait for a decision which can take up to 42 days!

9. Once a decision has been made you both need to give your landlord a moving date and stick to it. As new rent books etc will have to be printed off.

10 Moving day arrange to leave keys with neighbours friends or if you trust the other party give them a single key to the home ideally a back door key and leave the rest of the keys within the home in a safe out of sight place!
